Steering Committee

  • Giada Ruspoli, member of the Ruspoli family
  • Silvestro Fochetti, President of the Santa Giacinta Marescotti Study and Research Center

Subject and Objectives

The Santa Giacinta Marescotti Study and Research Center of Vignanello promotes the 5th edition of the “Prince Francesco Maria Ruspoli International Competition” in 2013, with the following objectives:

  1. to pay tribute to Prince Francesco Maria Ruspoli, a prominent figure of Roman Baroque and a great patron of artists such as Georg Friedrich Händel, Jacques Hotteterre “Le Romain”, Antonio Caldara, Benedetto Marcello and the Poets of the Arcadia Academy, by re-proposing his patronage and his passion for the arts and music in a modern key;
  2. to rediscover and give expressive form to the *genius loci*, represented by the music of the baroque period, which embodied the identity of Vignanello and the Ruspoli Castle during the court of Prince Francesco Maria. He made his court one of the major cultural centers of the time, on par with other noble European residences.
  3. to create a launchpad for young talents in the field of historically-informed re-performance of baroque-era music (17th and 18th centuries), who will be able to relive the atmosphere of Ruspoli Castle, a place where many important artistic events were experimented;
  4. to span the various fields of music, alternating singing with instruments and experimenting with new techniques, even in a modern key
  5. to promote research and in-depth study in the musicological sector, from historical and archival research related to patronage to the study of expressive languages, musical, iconographic sources and musical instruments in the baroque era (17th and 18th centuries).

Competition Structure

The Prince Francesco Maria Ruspoli International Competition consists of:

  • a musicology section with a theme chosen by the organization each year
  • a section that alternates each year between singing and one of the baroque-era instruments. Singing will therefore characterize the section of the 2013 edition.
