Subject and Objectives

The Centro Studi e Ricerche Santa Giacinta Marescotti of Vignanello promotes the 6th edition 2014 of the Principe Francesco Maria Ruspoli International Competition, with the following objectives:

  1. To pay homage to Prince Francesco Maria Ruspoli, a prominent figure of the Roman Baroque and a great patron of artists like Georg Friedrich Händel.
  2. To rediscover and give expressive form to the genius loci, represented by the music of the Baroque period, which personified the identity of Vignanello and the Ruspoli Castle.
  3. To create a launching opportunity for young talents in the field of historically informed performance of Baroque-era music (17th and 18th centuries).
  4. To explore different fields of music by alternating between singing and instruments, and experimenting with new techniques.
  5. To promote research and in-depth study in the musicology sector.

Competition Structure

The Principe Francesco Maria Ruspoli International Competition is composed of:

  • A musicology section with a theme chosen annually by the organization.
  • A section that alternates yearly between singing and an instrument of the Baroque era. The 2014 instrumental section will be dedicated to the Baroque Violin.
